NOTE TO OUR LOYAL ARTISTS

NOTE TO OUR LOYAL ARTISTS It is with sadness we have decided to close the Take-a-Word challenge. Since Marie's passing nine months ago, we have continued to administer the three challenges (Take-a-Word, Three Muses, and Digitalmania), but we have a need to lessen the load a bit. We ask that our loyal followers here at Take-a-Word continue to share your talents at Three Muses or Digitalmania (which is a Flickr site). We are immensely grateful for your participation for the past ten years or so, and hope to see you there. The bee challenge will be the final challenge for Take-a-Word. Ann and Bev

ARE ART CHALLENGES GOING OUT OF FASHION?

Take a Word has been in the art challenge business for over eight years.  Sadly, it seems that challenges aren't as popular as they used to be and numbers are dwindling as valued artists have left to follow other opportunities.  We've been so fortunate to have shared our challenges with talented and generous participants from all forms of art - stamping, card-making, crafts, mixed media and digital art.  Our aim has always been to provide a place for artists to publish their work and make connections with like-minded people.  Now we would appreciate your comments on the future of challenges and also your ideas as to improvements that could be made to attract new artists and to persuade our loyal participants to stay. We are always grateful for theme suggestions.

My email address is on the right-hand side bar of the Take a Word web page.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Marie/Ozstuff.

  2. I don't think they are out of fashion. I just think people are finding less time to art lately. I struggle to enter a lot of challenges I used to because they are weekly. I like the monthly ones, but wish they didn't all start at the beginning of the month. XXX

  3. I am so glad that this is a challenge where you can 'play' with not only cards; I have enough cards and slowly am a bit tired of making them, but I love to make pages in my Journals... With my work, family, studie, housework and the different DT-work I do it isn't easy to participate every week, but I find the art in the gallary so inspiring and the way I was welcomed here so uplifting! Maybe others are feeling the same as I; we all work hard and the play time is so much less as it was... The only suggestion I have is to make it a 2-weeks challenge; that way some of us will have a bit more time. But I don't mind if I am a week late; I so appreciate all the inspiration (and the fun of creating something0! x

  4. I have enjoyed these challenges. The prompts and especially the inspiration pictures are not sweet and cute run-of-the-mill - something I value highly. It is hard to find challenges where you want to bring not only your best work to the table, but try to exceed it. Easy challenges are thirteen to a dozen, this one is one of few. Please keep it alive.

  5. I hope you keep this challenge going. I may not have been around much lately but now the autumn is here I have more time hope to join in more regularly.
Perhaps having two weeks to enter would give folk more time to create for the theme. xx

  6. As someone who values your challenges as a way to get in touch with my soul by creating art, and reaching out to meet friends and enjoy their creativity and get their feedback, I am sad to see so many of them fade away. But frankly I don't see a problem with the number of participants if you, yourself are enjoying the challenges it's not like you're getting paid per person...lol
Also is there somewhere we could advertise the challenges like on Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest.
As far as themes go you could enlist the challenge participants to come up with a topic and an example a week or more ahead.
Thanks for the time you take to host these challenges for us, I will do what I can to encourage others to join in the fun.

  7. I love this page..I hope you don't stop with the challenges.
Everything Deann says is pretty much everything I believe also.
thank you for doing this, you all are the reason I started creating digitally in the first place, and while my creations aren't top notch, like most of yours..I still have fun.

  8. I agree with a lot of what others have said. Sometimes the problem is lack of time. Sometimes the problem is artist's block. But Take a Word and Three Muses are both welcoming challenges that don't place any restrictions like some challenges do (i.e. digital artwork not allowed, etc.)

I have a link to this site on my blog. I don't know if they only list paper challenges, or they list others, too. So it's worth asking them if they will add Take a Word and Three Muses to their list of challenges:

  9. I love to play along when I can - sometimes I am time poor and struggle! I think it's sad that blogging in general is not as "busy" as it was with more people on Facebook and Instagram and Blogs seem to get bypassed these days. I love your challenges - I love seeing the talented creations - I love that the "medium" we can use is whatever we want. Hope you continue with them - I will try to play along more - would hate to see this blog stop!

  10. Hello Marie!
I noticed your request today and would like to say that I have advertised this blog by the direct link with my challenge works during all the time I've participated on your challenges. I haven't seen any other to do the same. In most of other challenge blogs it is even compulsory to include the link to the challenge blog.
I would like to say that I've partisipated for so long time that themes of challenges repeat quite much, and this is the reason if I do not take part always any more.
Thank you for hosting for so long.
    Best regards,
    Sirkka-Liisa/Sirkkis
